Morino and her classmate are drawn to death. More specifically murder. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on who you ask, murderers are drawn to Morino. Maybe it's because she was touched by death as a young age. Maybe it's because of who she hangs out with, or does he hang out with her because of her murder magnet? This book is a collection of short stories surrounding Morino, her friend, and dark going-ons in their town. As with all short story collections, I liked some stories better than others. All are incredibly dark and gory but some had better pay offs than others. As always, Japanese horror is just a step above what you'd typically read in American horror. This book boarders on torture porn and I think part of that is the fact that most of the book is from the point of view of the actual killers. While Morino is the title character we are more often in the POV of a murderer, their victim, or her friend (who is not entirely human in his own right). There are some fun plot twists in this book too. Some more predictable than others. But predictability isn't always a bad thing.
(I will admit this review is harder for me because I started this book like a year ago at my boyfriend's place then forgot about it until a couple days ago and decided to finish it. But that is one nice thing about short story collections: it's pretty easy to pick back up)
