Drakon's Promise
by N.J. Walters
A great start to a new paranormal romance series featuring dragon shifters! If you know me, it isn't a big secret that I love shifters especially dragon shifters!Going into this book, I was expecting a usual paranormal romance. This was quite better than what I expected!
Drakons are half human, half dragon sons born to male dragon and female human.Unlike dragons, they can shift and hold both human and dragon forms for long periods of time.Darius Varkas and his three brothers are drakons. There are only a few left in the world and they are quite secretive.Drakons are hunted for their blood, which can be used to cure illnesses and prolong life. The Knights of the Dragon are the ones who hunt them the most. Now, that they are back, Darius and his brothers are in danger.
Sarah Anderson is a librarian with the rare gift of psychometry. When she loses her job and manages to get another one where she has to catalog a private collection of books, she is drawn into the fight between the Knights and Dragons. She finds a book that could be used to trap and enslave drakons and overhears a conversation involving the Knights. Her conscience and sense of selflessness make her reach out to Darius to warn him.Darius is quite rich and owns many mining companies. He already has safe guards in place and has taken preemptive measures. But when he meets this librarian who wants to warn him and give him the book that could change their future, he doesn't know whether to trust her.
But, once he realizes that she has nothing but good intentions, all bets are off. With the knights hot on their trail, Darius has to get away and he isn't leaving Sarah behind. There is also the sizzling attraction between them, one like he has never felt before.Every drakon has one mate, but many hardly ever meet theirs. Is Sarah his?And will they make it out alive?
This was a fast paced paranormal romance that was written very well. The concept of dragon shifters and mates isn't new, but I like how the author has put her own spin on it.Both Darius and Sarah were great main characters and the romance between them was well done, though it was a little rushed for my tastes. But since it's the one true mate thing, I know we can't deny the connection between them.
Personally Sarah was my favorite.Intelligent, resilient, witty and loyal. The villains weren't that well fleshed out and felt one dimensional at times with their motivations.
I hope they improve in the future!
Darius' brothers are also great additions, and since each one of them will be getting their own book, I'm so excited for the next books in this series!!
