Um, I started this and then could not put it down, if that tells you anything.
Riptide is the 4th book in the Cedar Lakes University series but can be read as a complete standalone (though I do recommend at least trying to read Pieces; you get to meet Finn briefly in this one).
Finn and Foxx, what do I even say about them? They are a perfect match. The silly (Finn) and the serious (Foxx) play so well off of each other.
Finn, while seemingly silly and light-hearted, is carrying with him the weight of loss like no other. Moving back home and nannying for his niece, Finn finds that he needs more than this to distract himself. What was supposed to be a hookup turns into something completely unexpected.
Foxx, the serious, and orderly math professor, is carrying his own loss. This loss, while different from Finn's, has left him living his life in a way that would prevent anything from coming in and shaking it up; that is, until what was supposed to be a hookup does just that.
The relationship that develops between these two is perfect in all the ways. They way that each other them came to terms with their own past and healing journey both on their own, but knowing that the other was not far behind and was completely supportive. They emotions that they pulled from me, I laughed and I cried, and I did both more than once.
The grief part of their journey was always front and center, it was not just a thing talked about once and then all of a sudden everything is fine, no, the grief is raw and hard and Meghan brings your through it. Even in the lighter moments, the grief is present. The love and care she takes with this is beautiful.
I am sure this review does not do this book the justice it deserves, but you should add it to your TBR.
Thank you Meghan Hollie and LoveNotes PR for the ARC in return for an honest review.
