The Dagger and the Flame by Catherine Doyle
4.0

[ᴛᴡ: ᴄʜɪʟᴅʜᴏᴏᴅ ᴀʙᴜꜱᴇ, ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ ᴏꜰ ᴀ ʟᴏᴠᴇᴅ ᴏɴᴇ, ᴍᴜʀᴅᴇʀ]
ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have needed some books that allow me to escape from reality for a little while lately and true to form, Romance/Fantasy novels have provided just that. The Dagger and the Flame was the perfect getaway filled with power hungry villains, a heroine desperate to find vengeance, and the perfect amount of sexual tension. I absolutely inhaled this book cover to cover.
Was it the greatest YA romantasy of all time?? No. Was it fun and entertaining? Yes. Will I be reading any subsequent novels in the series? You bet your ass. I loved the Romeo and Juliet meets smashing the status quo themes that Doyle gives us in the novel and I found myself rooting for both sides at times. While the writing is a bit juvenile at times, it serves its purpose for a quick read and full comprehension of the City of Fantome.
Overall, an entertaining read with a fun romance side plot and a healthy dose of escapism. I would recommend for anyone looking to shut out the noise of reality right now.
