The Waste Lands by Stephen King

5.0

“Ka was like a wheel, its one purpose to turn, and in the end it always came back to the place where it had started.”

Another great instalment in the Dark Tower series! I ended up giving The Waste Lands a 4.5/5 like The Drawing of the Three. However, I’m not entirely sure which is my favourite out of the two just yet. The Waste Lands is definitely a contender for my favourite DT book so far (although I’ve only read up to this one so that can definitely change).

I loved the first half of the book where we got to switch between Jake’s world and the world of Roland, Eddie, and Susannah. Also, the use of dreams was super interesting! I love how everyone in the Ka-tet are linked together. And don’t even get me started on Oy, he was THE CUTEST (I now want a Billy-Bumbler thanks).

I really liked the scene between Susannah and Eddie where they tell each other why they fell in love with each other. I know Stephen King is not a romance writer, but I did feel like their romance was a little rushed/out of the blue up until that point but that scene helped with that aspect of their relationship for me.

Also, can we talk about Blaine for a second? He is such a chaotic character I kind of love him (even though he’s a killer train but whatever don’t judge me). I also kind of really liked the Andrew Quick aka the Tick-Tock Man is kind of a vibe and I’m excited to see how he progresses in the rest of the series. I’m also very intrigued by the new character The Ageless Man because I love myself a good villain.

ALSO, the way the book ends on such a huge cliffhanger is THE WORST and should be illegal (especially if you’re going to take six years to publish the next part *cough* stephen king *cough*, as I have learned from the reviews on here). But alas, I now must wait until I can get my hands on the next Dark Tower book. sighs.
