Emma Orchard has such a talent for writing Regency romance that feels familiar in the best way, but also layered and surprising. To Catch a Lord pulled me in with its wit and humour, then completely floored me with its heart.
What I loved most about this story was how alive the characters felt. Amelia is not your typical debutante—she’s sharp, resourceful, and so much fun to spend time with on the page. I found myself cheering for her, laughing with her, and, at times, aching for her. The way she handles the pressures and judgments of society makes her incredibly relatable, even across centuries. She’s a heroine you want to root for, not because she’s perfect, but because she’s resilient and unapologetically herself.
The romance is beautifully balanced, with a hero who’s both honourable and quietly complex. I appreciated how his strength didn’t come from outshining Amelia but from supporting her in the moments that mattered most. Their dynamic had an understated tenderness that stayed with me long after I finished.
Beyond the banter and the sparkling Regency setting, this novel touches on deeper themes in subtle but powerful ways. There are undercurrents of resilience, of how damaging gossip can be, and of how much courage it takes to live authentically when the world is ready to tear you down. I found myself pausing at times, not because the pace dragged (it never does), but because the book made me feel.
By the end, I wasn’t just entertained—I felt uplifted. Orchard combines humour, heart, and humanity in a way that makes her stories linger. To Catch a Lord is clever, charming, and unexpectedly moving. A Regency romance that sparkles on the surface while delivering something much richer underneath.
Highly recommended if you want a historical romance that makes you laugh, swoon, and think—all at once.
My thorough thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for allowing me an ARC to read.
