Samskara: A Rite for a Dead Man by U.R. Ananthamurthy
4.0

Well written and well translated. Gripping enough and a quick read. The depiction of the lifestyle and characters seem familiar and spot on, especially when it’s from
The 1960s. The comic timing, comes across as unintentional and apt, in the midst of a serious theme. The afterword is for explanatory for folks not accustomed to the customs in the area. Else the novel as such is fine. The open ended climax of the book leaves the reader wondering what’s next - which I have a love hate relationship with. Th last quarter of the book was a little drawn out. But when u think back, it’s just a tad bit not-so-good when compared to the rest of the book. Glad to have read this translation. Good read!!
