I received a review copy of this book, just to set the record straight. I'm not a big fan of the initial book in a series (which if Ms. Shojai's book doesn't sprout into a series it will be a shame). I normally like to start later and then come back for the genesis. Mainly it's probably because of all the heavy lifting the author has to do to get all her characters set up. And the beginning of the novel is a little slow, but I'm going to forgive her for that. The last half of this mystery novel is well-worth the wait. The characters are intriguing and definitely have possibilities for the future. I also appreciate the way the animal behavior info is woven throughout the story without becoming heavy handed. Well done!
