Rejected
by Jaymin Eve
Well this was unique. I liked the world, it includes shifters, dark magic, shadow beast, fae, goblins, it is a nice mesh of all things I love. The tempo in the beginning was quick and fierce. Mera is a shifter, who has been abused, bullied, and tortured by her pack because of her father's rebellion, something she had no part of control in. She tries running away but is caught and brought back for her first shift into her wolf form, which occurs at the age of 22. After shifting she finds out that she is mated with one of her biggest enemies, the next alpha of the pact, the son of the man who killed her father. After being rejected by her mate and informed she would be essentially raped by the one who killed her dad, so she calls out to the Shadow Beast for help, the God of shifters. He arrives and takes Mera with him to a world very different from Earth. She learns she pulled shadow creatures out of the Shadow realm. A realm that has been sealed off for a thousand years. She finds herself captive to the Shadow beast, having to try to open the shadow realm and collect all the shadow creatures she called into the universe. Despite being held captive she finds herself becoming attracted to Shadow. Mera tries to quickly adjust to the dangerous and exciting world she has been thrust in. But Shadow holds his secrets close and danger is lurking.
So the plot definitely has promise. But it was kind of boring in some parts. I was interested in the various worlds and even the brewing romance between Mera and Shadow. She kind got on my nerves. I mean being stubborn and refusing to bow is one thing, but too much sass is another. I dunno. I didn't love her but I didn't hate her either. I guess I am still considering my opinions. It kept my interest enough to want to keep going with this world.
Also for note, the cover is beautiful, but the spice wasn't what I expected based on the cover. There was good elements but it expected more.
