Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

5.0

The funny thing here is that I had no intention of running out and buying IGNITE ME the first chance I got. I had my name on a library waiting list of fifty-three and was content to wait. But then, reviews started pouring in. Five star, glowing reviews that I was so obsessed with reading that I was scrolling through all of them in Goodreads while in the middle of class. I’m glad I didn’t wait because this final installment has definitely earned a spot on my bookshelf and belongs on yours too.

“Ignite, my love. Ignite.”

IGNITE ME had character development that flew into the stars. Juliette is no longer the weak, sad little girl we knew in SHATTER ME just as she is no longer the unsure, confused young woman we knew in UNRAVEL ME. Juliette has come into herself and her powers, taking charge of everything that she is and can become. (A total badass.)

Adam changed the most. It becomes clear exactly what he thinks of this new Juliette and which version he prefers. However, I do wish this revelation about his character could have been introduced gradually instead of all of the sudden.

Even the lovable “villain” Warner changes. It’s no secret he loves Juliette and will do anything for her, which he shows time and time again. Just like with Adam, new things about his character are made known as well.

“Words, I think, are such unpredictable creatures. No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be more powerful than a sentence. Swords may cut and kill, but words will stab and stay, burying themselves in our bones to become corpses we carry into the future, all the time digging and failing to rip their skeletons from our flesh.”

If you are a fan of these books you will know that Mafi has a very specific, creative way of writing this series. It will not appeal to some people, but I absolutely love the uniqueness of it. There are some quotes to die for in this book.

As for that infamous love triangle, well. All I can say is that Juliette ended up with the best boy for her, and take that as you may. Oh, and the romance scenes in this book are crazy-had me swooning!

I was a follower of the SHATTER ME books from the very beginning, but IGNITE ME has totally made the series for me. Fantastic.

“And we are quotation marks, inverted and upside down, clinging to one another at the end of this life sentence. Trapped by lives we did not choose.”
