Minski The Cannibal by Marquis de Sade
dark
slow-paced
I really enjoyed the essay at the end of this book that analyzes the works of Sade in relation to their place in the budding gothic horror genre of the late 18th century. It provides a context for his work and leads me to consider that perhaps the more depraved of his publications (like some say about the film The Human Centipede (2010)) truly fit the horror genre precisely because they are horrifying beyond belief.
