Call Me By Your Name
by André Aciman
I’m not gonna lie about the fact that I had a hard time making my way through it. I started reading this book in June and finished it now. It’s not a very long book and I could easily have finished any other 248 page long book in a day, but this one was hard.
I think a part of the fact that it took so long is because it’s not in my known language. Though buying this book I had the only requirement that it would be in English.
I must also say that I most of the time drifted away and read the words without reading them. I have certainly missed a lot of importance in this book.
You may think, “then way did you rate it 4/5”. Because of the last sentence to be completely honest. I’ve during this read thought, “what should I date it on goodreads?”, and here I am with a 4. To Finnish this up I’m gonna write you the quote that changed my vote: “look me in the face, hold my gaze, and call me by your name”.
Reread 20/2-24
I liked this book a lot more the second time around. It is just soo beautiful and raw and I love it. It feels so real and true somehow, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. I still have some issues with the language. André Aciman likes to use big words, adjectives and long sentences. Which can be quite difficult to read as a person with English as a second language. But I still adore this book and I think it is beautifully written! I’m still rating it 4/5 because of the language barrier.
