American Royalty by Tracey Livesay
5.0

I picked up American Royalty because I wanted to try to read something I don't typically seek out—this novel had two: a royal and a musician. I was definitely lured into how it mentioned Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, but I very quickly learned that parallel exists solely to be a parallel, because the story of Dani and Prince Jameson is so different in the best way!

American Royalty is the first of a two book series about these two people from entirely different worlds meet and fall in love. Prince Jameson tries really hard to be a grouch but he's a kind, passionate, caring man, and Dani tries really hard to be seen as her soft core instead of the hardened, boss b, rapper persona she has put on for her entire career. Through circumstances out of their control, Dani and Jameson learn to lean on each other and let each other in, resulting in a love story that was sweet and authentic and really, really wonderful to read.

Tracey Livesay is a wonderful writer, and I love how the supporting characters are all dynamic and shine off the pages. Lucky for me, book 2 is out now! My only critique is…I didn't think Dani's lyricism was that great, so sometimes the quotes from her songs would pull me out of the story a little…but never too much.
