The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter

3.5/5 stars

Listened to this as an audiobook. This is my first Karin Slaughter book. I appreciated that I was able to understand 90% of the people and their relationships even though I hadn’t read the other books (I got the book on clearance not realizing it was part of a series). Slaughter did a good job writing the characters and scenes to where I could follow what was going on between everyone without the background.

The story was interesting, albeit a bit of a stretch especially once you find out who the bad guy is. At times it was difficult to follow what timeline we were in, but that could have just been me. Some parts dragged a bit like others said, but it wasn’t bad overall.

I do wish I has looked at the trigger warnings for this book before reading, if only to be better prepared. I’m a horror and true crime girl, but some of the descriptions of the violence were a lot for me. It’s worth knowing going in that her descriptions of the assaults are extremely graphic and you should be prepared for that.

I’m going to read another book of hers from a different series to see if I like it better, but overall, this was an engaging listen and I’d recommend it if you can stomach it. It sounds like people who followed the series that lead up to this book really really like it, so maybe I would like it better if I followed from the beginning, too.
