I’ve heard people talk about this book for years, so I gave it shot. It is a super quick read- read it in a day in between my Sunday tasks (and I’m not a fast reader by any means). That’s why it will get three stars instead of 2.5. Miscellaneous thoughts:
First: I don’t like when people say, “no spoilers, but I couldn’t believe the twist at the end”. Saying a book has a twist IS A SPOILER IN AND OF ITSELF. I read this whole book through that lens, so it probably ruined aspects of the read for me.
Second: this is a category of books that I call “icky”. They just make you feel gross while reading, and adding to it…
Third: this book was unnecessarily explicit. Like, no one can come at me for reading romantasy considering book club mom’s are just casually digesting this content.
Fourth:girl…. If I found that manuscript hidden in an office (of a woman who I’m supposed to get to know better) full of intimate life details, I would have stayed up all night finishing that thing. You can’t tell me it took her three weeks to read it. Now, if you told me it took her three weeks to write it… reasonable (and where I thought this story was going).
Fifth: the somewhat unresolved ending was annoying. What is even more annoying? THE BONUS CHAPTER SHE RELEASED. After reading it on Reddit, it almost change the perception of the ending. That’s not the point of bonus chapters. Like, wtf Colleen.
Finally: I hate all these people and, unless the movie is incredible, won’t be interacting with this book again.
