I loved it, I really did.
The last few chapters had me in tears, which rarely happens. It is an emotional, very well written novel.
I knew nothing about Shostakovich, I actually have very few knowledge around classical music, but all through the book it was like I was hearing the music, like it was woven in with the words!
The story was also quite gripping, the months before and the first year of the siege of Leningrand, the struggles and horrors the will to survive, nicely described with the emotion coming naturally not at all forced.
A brilliant read!
