Whispers of Her
by J.A. Owenby
Whispers of Her is the last instalment in The Truth Series detailing Lacey's life so far. It starts with Lacey recovering in the hospital. She not only has to deal with Walker being arrested, but her delightful mom turning up too. She finds out exactly who saved her and how before being taken back 'home' with Emma. The trouble is, it doesn't feel like home any longer, and she is fed up with being treated like a child. Of course, Emma has reasons for the way she is treating Lacey, but Lacey can't see that. Instead, Lacey is in a destructive maelstrom of emotions and, to start with, doesn't even know if she wants to fight back to normalcy.
There is a hint of a love triangle in this book, although I'm pleased to say that it didn't really work out. Sorry, not sorry! Love triangles really aren't my thing! With some new characters, plus the return of some old favourites - YEY George!!! - you stick with Lacey as she tries to figure out what the hell to do next. I was a bit surprised at a bit towards the end, as I thought the sister might have made a reappearance to have her say, but she didn't (sorry, being deliberately vague so as not to spoil it for others.)
As with the first two books in the series, this was exceptionally well written, with raw and honest emotions jumping from the page. Complete with an epilogue which should keep everyone happy, this story is smoothly paced, building up to the climax. You suffer through Lacey's ups and downs and cheer her on every step of the way. As this is part of a series, you MUST read the first two books to understand what is going on. I really can't recommend this series highly enough. Absolutely brilliant.
