These short stories are so gripping! It amazes me how much story and character development she covers in so few pages! This is the second release in the 831 Stories series and you will want to read this one!
The story centers around 28yo Cassidy who comes home after a forced leave of absence from work. She is burned out and still struggling to overcome a traumatic scandal that happened at 22. She is estranged from her friends and family and operating in survival mode. While home for 3 weeks, her parents happen to be on an anniversary trip so she is home alone. In defiance of her therapist's advice, she looks for ways to stay busy instead of dealing with her feelings.
On her first night back, she heads to dive bar and runs into an old high school 'nemesis', Leon. The catch up and realize there are still some lingering resentment between the two of them, but there's an undeniable attraction too. They decide to test the waters with an incredible one-night stand.
However, it doesn't end with one night. Cassidy also reconnects with her best friend from childhood, Willa and finds herself helping her open an art studio as a way to keep busy. Who happens to be an artist working with Willa and at the shop, Leon!
Things got off to a rocky start with Cassidy and Leon but they decide to call a truce for Willa's sake. In spending more time together, they begin to realize that their resentment of each other was based in misunderstanding. Can they get past it? What will happen when Cassidy has to return to work across the country? You will have to read to find out!
