Something Just Like This by Jennifer Probst

5.0

In Something Just Like This, Jennifer Probst delivered a mature romance that conveyed all of the butterflies of a new love, along with the comforting feelings of recognizing when someone special adds joy to your life. For three years, Alyssa Block has been NYC Mayor Jonathan Lake's right hand.
In that time their mutual respect and attraction have grown, until it's something that needs to be addressed. I loved how considerately the author handled these two highly competent individuals navigating the issue of pursuing a relationship, while also considering the political climate of the #metoo movement. So well done! Beyond their chemistry, I loved that Johnathan loved Alyssa's knack for spouting noteworthy facts. Some of those scenes lead to me laughing out loud, others caused me to swoon. My favorite scene involved Alyssa passionately expressing her love of words, and Jonathan responding,"You can't say stuff like that, Alyssa, and expect me not to want to kiss you." *CUE ALL THE SWOONING*

The characters in this novella were fully fleshed out and the story moved along at a steady and satisfying pace. It didn't read as a novella to me at all. As a fan of the series, I particularly enjoyed the Thanksgiving visit at the Robin's Nest B&B and the horse rescue farm. Revisiting those characters, seeing them all content and at peace, felt like a special holiday gift from the author. This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning my favorite rooster, Hei-Hei. I loved that he was still up to his usual hijinks! Such a rascal! Definitely a five star read for me! The only thing I could ask for is more of these wonderful characters...and hopefully it will come soon in the form of a book centered on Chloe and Owen.
