The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

4.0

You should never accept the opinions of others without first trying the waters for yourself. I put off reading this book for a while and after having read the prologue left the book for a week. So many people speak negatively about this series (although far more extol its virtues) and I allowed this to influence me. It is clearly a series influenced at least in part by Tolkien and whilst I am a fan of that author's works, for the most part, a part of me was worried that there would be moments when I would find myself thinking 'oh for pity's sake just get on with it' - there are moments like that if I'm honest but thankfully they were worth it. I absolutely loved the world building and if the story isn't exactly original it did keep me interested throughout.
