The Blue Fox by Sjón

4.0

"The Blue Fox" is a very slim little novel, and the first 50 or so pages fly by in a sort of poesy that draws out the essential souls of each element in the Icelandic wilderness. After that it adopts a more traditional prose style, although the writing maintains a fierce quality that evokes the snow and foxes of the opening section.

I'm not going to give away too much, but perhaps my favorite part of the book is how well the author keeps his secrets close to his chest. I found myself anticipating many of the plot's revelations, but that didn't lessen the emotional impact when they hit. Sjon has a wonderful style and I will eagerly seek out his other books after reading this one.
