The Elementary Particles by Michel Houellebecq

4.0

while Houellebecq doesn't know shit about religion and has the french pervert mind virus, he does do a good job of analysing and critiquing the current mind virus of contemporary consumerism and commodification of desire and spirituality. also he is somewhat self aware of his flaws and his point of view if you read the characters of Michel and Bruno as representing sort of 2 sides of Houellebecq himself. This was ultimately definitely fun to read and interesting, sort of like a darker version of the unbearable lightness of being with more of a point to make/prove
