Liberation Day by George Saunders
5.0

An amazing set of short stories from an amazing writer. My favorite excerpt from a recent "Lunch with the FT" with the author:

"The Irish novelist Anne Enright, reviewing Liberation Day in the Guardian last month, teasingly wrote: “Why is such a nice man so mean to the nice people he invents?”"

Says it all really. But does it? The story “Sparrow” - good hearted and uplifting - is in fact positively numinous.
