1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die
by Peter Boxall
Don’t sweat it if this list is unfair, misses great works, includes crappy titles, does not replace a different list that you prefer or made yourself, is poisoned by prejudices of every description, is elitist, isn’t elitist enough, invokes an arbitrary and misleading numerical goal, and weighs too much. It’s a very, very fine book to keep on a shelf in your bathroom. The little blurbs are short enough, the pictures are abundant, and as with any book you object to, having it handy in that chamber may be what saves you from a potential crisis one day.
But even more importantly, think about the promise Mr. Boxall had made to you. Yes, you must read his 1001 books, but you WILL NOT DIE until you finish them. You might be alive for centuries! On the other hand, he may be standing right behind your chair as you close the very last volume.
