I always love Jodi Picoult's characters and how they always have a Special Interest of some kind. Picoult gets really into her research, and she's really proud of it, which is great and good for her, but it does lead to long infodumpy blocks of text sometimes. The stuff about death doulas was really interesting; the stuff about Egyptology I mostly skimmed.
The twist in this one is mostly guessable, which I say is a good thing. I do have a problem with the twist as it does cheat the book out of its interest/hook, but ultimately I don't think that was too much to the book's detriment.
