An extremely intriguing idea regarding the impact of one's upbringing by one's parents and surroundings. At fourteen, Fern's life is divided into two stories: one in which she remains in California with her alcoholic father, who is loving but imperfect, and another in which she travels to London with her narcissistic, controlling mother. The detailed examination of Fern and Flick's parallel lives reveals how their disparate upbringings influence their personalities and choices. Despite the two personas, I thought this novel was quite enjoyable.
