The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks: Young Readers Edition by Jeanne Theoharis

5.0

Quick Summary: The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks - YRE was brilliantly done. Theoharis did a masterful job of presenting the life story and works of this Civil Rights icon. I loved how she revealed Parks as a lioness who roared through her activism. She showed readers that there was more to Rosa's story than what is typically portrayed in the annals of history. I appreciated how she uncovered Rosa's personal fight for justice, equality, and equity and how she proclaimed Rosa as an ally for those who were wronged due to racial discrimination, abuses, harassment, and oppression.

As a parent and as an educator, I highly recommend this book. Every student in this country should be exposed to its content. There is so much that remains untold and unknown about Mrs. Rosa Parks and about those who came before her and alongside her. This book fills in some of the gaps. It is a valuable tool and a rich resource that deserves to be acknowledged and utilized. Lastly, as an African American woman, I applaud this work that unapologetically recognizes black excellence, female strength and tenacity, and human grit in the face of adversity.
