Read this book to see if the hype is justified… I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m glad Lily was able to get to a good place but the plot is kind of predictable. It mirrors her parents relationships so after the first time Ryle hits Lily I was sure that it would continue, just like her mother’s abuse continued. The red flags or Ryle were really romanticised from the beginning, the open begging for sex was tbh unsettling and clearly an indicator that this man was not an amiable character. Nevertheless it showed Lily to be a somewhat strong character, although I felt Atlas’ and Lily’s love story was sweet, it did undermine her strength as an independent considering she has to seek safety with Atlas when she is hiding from Ryle. It was an overall quick read and an interesting book, however I wish there was more punishment for Ryle, his profession and his wealth and especially his actions towards Lily portray him as ignorant and escaping consequences when he literally *raped* his pregnant wife and imo the whole image of him being this amazing father who is a provider shouldn’t have been included.
