dlberglund 's review for:
Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight
by Riku Onda
If you go into this expecting and American or British style murder mystery thriller, you will be disappointed. That's not what it is. This is more of a meandering character study (or relationship study) of two people who are trying to hash everything out at the end of their relationship, after living together for a while. The narrative voices aren,t completely distinct, especially at the beginning, and that may be true in the original Japanese or it may be a translation issue. Neither narrator is entirely reliable, and there are reveals as the book goes along. And you may argue that the ending is a bit ambiguous. But it was very interesting, and made me want to know the truth.
