Oh hello Stockholm syndrome, it’s been a while! I have heard this book is more of a really long prologue and that the others in the series are better. If it weren’t for that I probably wouldn’t finish the series.

Loved
  • The idea of a King Midas retelling
  • The imagery created by the author
  • Sail

Meh
  • The FMC is so frustrating. It makes it very hard to root for her at all
  • If you are at all triggered by SA, this is not the book for you. It’s not normally one of my triggers and I still had a hard time

Disliked
  • Why would you have a map at the beginning of a book if none of the narration about the world seems to match the map??
  • Way to kill off the only character I actually liked…
  • The Stockholm syndrome is extreme and makes the FMC look incredibly weak and stupid

I am trusting the people who told me the series gets better, but man this was not a great start.
