A captive princess. A maidservant in possession of forbidden magic. A temple that was once the source of powerful deathless waters. The vengeful princess and the maidservant with a dangerous secret will collide within the temple, together they’ll change the fate of the empire.

The last time I was this excited to pick up a book and keep reading was when I read The Bitch Queen Chronicles. That magic pull a book has where you can’t help but think about it when you’re not reading it. The Jasmine Throne reminded me why fantasy is my fave genre overall. I completely found myself inside this world and beside these characters.

The best part about The Jasmine Throne was how the world building unravelled. Oftentimes I find there’s either a info dump at the beginning or not enough describing the world but with this one you learn about the world through the characters dialogue and character flashbacks. It didn’t feel overwhelming or confusing at all, it just flowed.

It wouldn’t be a fave of mine if character development wasn’t a focal point. Loved how each character was many different shades of grey. None of them were truly “good” or truly “evil”, they were just realistic. Although parts of it were predictable I read this in less than a week and it thoroughly gave me an escape.

Looking forward to the next in the trilogy, 4.5✨. Thank you @hbgcanada for sending a copy my way for review!
