All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

"Sometimes I feel everything that, like, makes me up has gone away."

"What a terrible feeling to love someone and not be able to help them."

"The thing I realize is that it's not what you take, it's what you leave."

The story of a girl who learns to live from a boy who wants to die.
This sentence pretty much sums up the whole novel. And at the same time it's devastating and ironic.

I read this novel four years ago... Seems like a long time ago, and now that I have read it again, I would say, it's devastating, and saddening. It's like a true depiction of many of us, we ourselves when we are worn out try our best to pick others up, but sometimes many of us are not able to do it.
This story is not that in depth, as in depth of the mind of a person suffering from depression, of course it's not a psychological book, but no matter what I say, it carries a strong message, a wonderful message, for sure it shows what a person feels, and how people carry on with it... And also in many cases they hide, because the darkness, the emptiness, the hollowness, is not easy at all to share with anyone or to explain to them, because to others it seems that he/she is under the weather. Depression in short is a silent killer, it just keeps on emptying you from the inside, and this darkness, this pain when becomes unbearable, then a person's mind thinks that he/she doesn't mean much to anyone, they have this feeling of helplessness and worthlessness, they just can't help think like that, because their own self stands against it's own self. It's a fight within. It's a war within. No one can see it of course, no one is aware of it of course except for the person fighting this darkness.
We all seem alright from the outside, and sadly physical pain is the only pain that gets attention and credit, but if you take my opinion then, emotional pain or mental pain is far worse than this, if you are not okay from the inside you can never be ok from the outside.
People say to the person suffering from mental health issues or emotional pain to move on, take a fresh start, you just say these words, but those aren't the words they want to hear... You are making them feel as if they aren't trying their best, and on the other hand if someone feels a physical pain somewhere, you treat it rightly, why because you know how it feels and you think that it is real, what I am trying to say is that, no matter what emotional pain should be treated with much more care and caution than physical pain.
Moreover check on others, but first of all check on yourself first. Love yourself.
Go to therapy if you want to. Talk to people who understand. Listen to yourself. If you are feeling tired, down cut yourself some slack, don't be hard on yourself.
And people please try to understand what other person is trying to tell you. Tell them you are there. Don't say bad words to them.
Be kind. Be compassionate. We need such kind of people in today's world.

If you haven't read this book yet, go and read it.
May you all have a good day.
