Cross Bones by Kathy Reichs

1.0

Well, that was disappointing. This might rate a one and half stars, but it's more honest to round down than to round up in this case. Here's hoping that this is a one-off in the series. I enjoy Reichs' detective/mystery stories just fine, but her attempt to emulate a Dan Brown religious thriller is flat, wooden, and thoroughly unsatisfying. It is especially frustrating as I enjoyed Monday Mourning (book 7 in the series) so thoroughly and really felt Reichs had hit her stride in story telling. This one was a miss. A ridiculous plot with very little suspense or substance and rife with antisemitism. Almost a DNF, but I stayed stupidly optimistic until the end.
