Blacksouls by Nicole Castroman

4.0

I'm so happy I finally got around to reading this sequel! It's been sitting on my TBR shelf for a while now and after a quick reread of Blackhearts I was more than ready to dive back into the adventure of Anne and Teach. Well I adored Blackhearts, Blacksouls simply blew it out of the water. This sequel takes you further into the story of how Teach eventually becomes the infamous pirate Blackbeard but we also see Anne's perspective widened as she realizes the horrors of slavery outside of her sheltered life in Bristol. Blackhearts read as a great historical piece but Blacksouls leans more heavily into the pirate aspect, which is in my opinion what really made it such a blast to read. There's plenty of adventure, romance, and superb new characters that made this book as strong as it was. Plus, it's clear that Nicole Castroman did her research because those ship battle scenes seemed like they came straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean! Well this had a pretty decent ending there's a ton of room for more story to tell for Anne and Teach. I know that this novel came out a couple of years ago and since then there hasn't been any announcement for a third book but I would LOVE to see a continuation of this story and these characters! All in all if you're a fan of pirates, historical settings, romance and/or great characters I highly recommend this series!
