My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

5.0

I knew a bit about this book going in; I think most people do thanks to the popularity and the movie based on it. And even if I didn't, I have read books about people struggling with terminal or high-fatality-rate illnesses before. I wasn't expecting a book of sunshine.
But there was sunshine. There were some moments of heartbreaking sunshine, as the mother of a girl who was lucky to make it to five watches as she has experiences that she thought she would never have, like falling in love, crying over soapies, fighting with her sister over makeup. And there is torrential rain in the medical procedures, made perhaps worse by the children who have become experts in the disease. And of course the ending. I was crying for quite a while even after I stopped reading.
I loved this book. I loved each of the characters that took control of the chapters. I loved them even in their most flawed moments. I have quite a book hangover now.
