Dhi's Parables of Divine Transformation by Saudamini Mishra
5.0
The word 'Dhi' in Sanskrit translates to 'understanding', 'mind" or the 'intellect'.
This book consists of of 13 stories named 'Bhagyalakshmi', 'Seerat', 'Sneh- the wise woman of Samnagar', 'Kapil', 'Meeta and Kriti', 'Vibha', 'Naintara', 'Rohan Sarna', 'Akhil', 'Amita and Adil', 'Ashima and Neelima', 'Mahira' and 'Sahil'.
Bhagyalakshmi is the longest story of the book and so its impact on you will be much longer. It shows the relations between mother and child, between brother and sisters, between siblings. It shows that how in the old time, a man marriages with several girls just to continue their family tree. The main characters of the story is Bhagyalakshmi, Seth Vijay Singh Thakur, Bhanumati, Swarup, Kaveri, Renuka, Rajendra, Chandrima and others. It's very emotional story. The story encounters with many emotions simultaneously. Bhagyalakshmi marriages with Seth Vijay Singh Thakur who is much older than her only because she wants her sister to live a peaceful life. this story told as many things at a time like how can one sister can curse her own sister due to jealousy and at the same time one sister can give a piece of a heart, her child, to her sister.
This is one of the best story of this collection.
The next story 'Seerat' is all about love, about finding the meaning of love in our life. Some of the main characters of the story are Seerat, Jai, Aisha, Kabir, Veer, Shraddha and Shipra. This story tells us about how can someone betray you just for their own selfishness, about the inner feelings of a man, like how a man doesn't like a woman who earns more money than him and if they both are in a relationship then how the ego of a man hurts. The story also tells us about how we always wants to assure others that our pain is more than that of others. It tells us that we can connect with those people much easier in which we can find ourselves, even in our own children. There is a conversation in the story which I like the most which is: “We only want what we don’t have, Veer”, Seerat said, “I wanted you when I didn’t have you. Today I want Jai, all the more, because I could never think there would be a day I wouldn’t have him. Now you want me because you don’t have me, and you see me not being into you at all. That’s what you’re finding attractive,” she had declared, sighing at the vagaries of life.
This paragraph has so many hidden feelings and emotions in it. Also a sentence which I liked most in this story is, “We as children are far more likely to recognize our soulmates than as adults- someone had declared to me quite affirmatively a few years back.”
The third story, 'Sneh- the wise woman of Samnagar' is divided into two parts. The story mainly tells us about our Karma, this Karma cycle, our intentions, how to do positive with someone when you want something bad for them, about siblings relationship, about true love, about how a mother can feel jealous with own daughter which leads to decrease in firmness with her own child. The main characters of the story are Sneh, Aashna, Saavi, Nitin and Adhita. This is the story by which you can connect the most if you have ever feel jealous with someone openly or somewhere hidden in your own heart. This is final the best story of this book. There is a line in the story which I like the most. It is "Your mind could fool your conscience but your conscience will never fool your mind".
The next story Kapil is about your faith in God, in the almighty, about how we used to fool others including God and then blame God for not fulfilling our wishes. The main characters of the story are Kapil, Ajitesh and the priest. This story will help you differentiate between your own emotions and to understand yourself more accurately. There are two paragraphs in the story which I love the most. They are, first, "Strangely, everyone feels insulted when what they think to be their pitiable condition does not even evoke false sympathy from another. Ironical, that we strive to not be pathetic in life and yet when we feel like that ourselves, we feel humiliated if people don’t feel the same about us. We want them to feel sorry for us at our own convenience, on our terms." and second, "Well, here’s the truth- to him, goodness is not so much selflessness of intention as it is sincerity of intention."
The next story 'Meeta and Kriti' is about the relationship between husband and wife. The main characters of the story are Kriti, Anuj, Kriti's mother and Meeta. The story also tells us about how often we ignore the things and persons which we possess and have and feel unlucky by watching others without knowing the actual thing. There is a sentence in the story with which it starts in the middle unknown with its meaning and ends with opening the meaning of the sentence. The sentence is, “Don’t let your cowardice turn into your martyrdom.”
The next story 'Vibha' is the shortest story of this collection but it will leave a great impact on you. This story tells us about the true meaning of education, about children's imagination and about learning. The sentence in the story, “Knowledge is a product of one’s mind, not of one’s education.” is precious and we all should understand it.
The next story 'Naintara' is all about jealousy which the all field with others in some same or in some different ways. Also the story tells about parenting, about not feel jealous with someone as we all are different but at a same time beautiful in God's eye. The main characters of the story are Naintara, her mother and Abhishek. This is one of the most heart warming story of this collection which everyone should read. There is a message in the story which everyone should know and understand and apply in our life. Many of the problems in our life will be decreased if we applied the message given by the author in this story. To know this, you have to read this.
The next story ' Rohan Sanra' is about equality in this society. Many people differentiate other peoples due to their work. The main characters of the story are Rohan Sanra, his driver, his cook and other workers. The story also tells us that how can a work can be good for someone and at the same time, worst for other.
The next story 'Akhil' tells us that how can the news of someone's death is normal for many people just like the news they see on television related to sports. The sentence in the story, "Within a couple of minutes, the red banner on the television screen of every house flashed- “10 DEAD, 25 INJURED,” as some felt reprieved for the NUMBER wasn’t that big." tells everything.
The next story 'Amita and Adil' tells about depression, about the relationship and people living together having commonality of depression in the past. The story tells us many consequences of depression and about the problems arises due to it. Also it tells us how to deal with it and be positive.
The next story 'Ashima in Neelima' it's all about the situation we face and the perspective we feel. The sentence in the story, " Perspective- the only thing that governs FEELING." says all.
The next story 'Mahira' all about feeling and living our passion and to complete it. The two main characters of the story are Mahira amd Neil. It also tells us how a wrong calculation of astrology can affects someone's life in a disaster risk manner. This story also tell us that as a parent you should not completely believe in astrology. This is my favourite story of this collection. The story also tells us that if you will not follow your passion, your passion will definitely find the way by which you will follow it. This is a must read story.
The last story of this collection is 'Sahil'. This is a story of a guy who was resuscitated back to life if after being dead for nine minutes. This leads him to be a spiritual guru but in the end a lady asks him a question which completely turned his life. To know more about it, you have to read this story.
For me, this is one of the best book I have ever read. I will recommend this book to each and everyone. If if you don't like reading more, then this book can change your perspective.
This is a must read book.
