Picoult expertly weaves the present day and Elizabethan period stories of 2 female playwrights, distantly related, and their efforts to have their work performed in the face of bias and misogyny.
The idea that Shakespeare didn't write everything credited to him isn't new, and Emilia Bassano Lanier was the author of several of his plays has merit. This work of fiction imagines how and why that could happen, and draws parallels to challenges marginalized creators face today. I found myself deeply engaged in Emilia 's story.
Another great book by Jodi Picoult.
