The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty

5.0

This needs to be named a Modern Historical Fiction Classic, and everyone needs to read this.

I cannot begin to describe this book. This feels like it should be taught at schools and known worldwide and talked about in the future the same way our grandparents talk about Arabic poetry in Om Kalthoum songs.

The book shatters every doubt and exceeds every expectation. You will never be bored, skip over words or not feel completely enticed by the character that is Amina Al-Sirafi. I can't wait for the rest of the series and for more of Shannon's work.

For a second there, it felt like I was reading a PhD. thesis, and I am completely for it. I can tell she put so much effort and research into this, as well as clearly layed out and thought of the writing, plot and characters. She gifted us a literary masterpiece.

The suggested reading at the end... Bless Chakraborty 🥹
