folklore and film making parts are really interesting.
antagonist is cartoonish and book will probably be better without him.
ableism is appalling and
Lois' "revelation" at the end of the book is annoying at the very least. Apparently, she doesn't want to change her son and now can magically understand him, but still forces him to endure form of affection he doesn't like.
She knows she's a bad mother and we supposed to sympathize with her because she refuse to communicate with him at his own terms.
I knew what I was getting in, having read the description, but since I came here for the folk horror part, I expected to be mildly disgusted and was going to just skip the upsetting parts, but everything about autism in this book is just infuriating.

If author just cut out MC's family altogether it would have been a much better book.
