madelinesp 's review for:
Outlander
by Diana Gabaldon
dark
emotional
Good balance of romance, historical fiction, and political intrigue. Lost a star for the rape and domestic violence - I understand Gabaldon's stance that it happened in that period of history so it should be discussed in the fiction of the period but like 100 pages and constant callbacks (especially the DV) is a lot. My perspective is that, in a world where multiple women time travel through stones we don't need to have rape and dv a constant discussion. . I'll try reading the second one but we'll see about the entire series (these books are LONG)!!
