Heartless by Willow Winters, W. Winters

I still hate Carter a lot.
I was so annoyed at how he just loves hurting Aria in situations where she needs help and support and not torture. All he does is a trauma bond her. He hurts her and then he comforts her after. It's so sick and disgusting. I truly hate him and don't think that can ever change. He is truly despicable.
I liked Aria way more in this book even if she annoys me most of the time. I get that she needs to do stuff to survive but I hate how she enjoys it. It doesn't seem realistic to me.
I didn't really enjoy this book and was only going to give it one star. The ending bumped it up to two stars. I really liked how Aria finally took a stand against Carter for real and is trying to do something. I just hope this isn't just for show and that she truly means what she is doing now.
To summarise my experience so far, I was truly disgusted through most of the book. It's just sick. This series should not be promoted as a romance. This reads like a thriller to me. A woman trying to survive and slowly losing her mind and telling herself she loves the man hurting her to make the pain easier to sustain and to be able to disassociate from a horrible situation. Also a man so lonely and damaged that he feels the need to control a woman to inflict pain and revenge on her father. Then grew to tell himself he cares about her, just because he felt lonely before her. This feels way more realistic than what I got. If this had been the way the book was promoted I would have given it a much higher rating.
This series truly does portray a heartwrenching story of unstable mental health, abuse and trauma. It's NOT a love story and shouldn't be romanticized.
On a positive note, I loved Addison. I loved her and Aria together and hope they become friends. It did end on a great cliffhanger thought. I hope Aria keeps her newfound attitude in the next book.
