The Colour of Bee Larkham’s Murder by Sarah J. Harris

4.0

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book, based on all the reviews about the POV in this novel.

I’m glad I took the chance.

The book is certainly challenging to get through at times, but I think the story is worth the time it takes to read. The main character, Jasper, has autism — among other disabilities — and obsesses over colors and parakeets. Sometimes his obsessions seem distracting in the text, but that’s what makes his character authentic. There were several instances where Jasper’s character reminded me of what it’s like to talk to an autistic teenager in real life.

The bottom line: This book takes patience to read. But if you love a whodunnit murder mystery and are interested in the psychology of autism/mental illness you will appreciate this book.
