This was more action/adventure thriller vs psychological thriller, so if you're thinking it'll be like The Chain, it's not. It's still pretty edge of your seat, but in a completely different way. At first the family, the wife, her husband and his two kids are pretty insufferable and you really can't find anything redeeming about them, but as the story continues, you get some decent character development and learn a lot that helps alter your opinion of them. One take away is don't ever go off on your own exploring in Australia because it's a deadly terrain and you may not make it out alive. I like this author, this is the second I've read by him and he's very good at getting you right in the thick of it and ramping up the tension.
