This is the only book I have ever read that I don’t just dislike, but genuinely hate. Like why is it that the second physically disabled people deal with depression, it must be because of their disability and therefore they don’t need a therapist. That is just the thing that bugged me the most. Like why the hell do you hire a random woman to try and get him to want to go on and not get him professional help. It’s not even discussed in the book. As a disabled person the way some people view disabled people’s mental health is genuinely horrible and needs to change. This book is horrible and I am not saying that every single story of a disabled person is a happy one, but the only stories that sells are stories like this one. And that is misrepresenting and wrong and continues a damaging narrative about disabled people. and also the writing is genuinely terrible, like that made it so much harder to get through. I had to take a break in the middle of the book and pick it up again later because of how terrible the writing is.
