Firestarter by Stephen King

4.0

For this, I've gone back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. It's really a 3.5 for me, I think. But ultimately, when compared to a lot of fiction, it's excellent. It's just that when compared to the other works I've read from King, it's a 3.5 star book! Heh. I guess that's a compliment, though. :-p

Anyway, this was recommended (and purchased!!) for me because of the psychological aspects of it, and those were pretty cool. I think, honestly, it just felt a little too short and that the characters ultimately weren't fleshed out enough. I'm used to King making me cry about a character that died when the character existed for all of one paragraph in his novel. Characters that existed for practically this whole novel really didn't phase me when they died toward the end, and that is weird.

The first half of the book was fun, although a bit predictable. The second half was MUCH less predictable but also somewhat less fun. I also would have enjoyed exploring Andy and his ability more than Charlie and hers in some ways. Or I would have liked seeing more of Charlie's OTHER abilities besides being a human fire canon.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend- just not my favorite King book so far.
