This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura

4.0

I didn't even know this book existed until I saw someone I follow give it a low rating, which got me curious to know why. Then I read the synopsis and I thought this sounded like something I would like. I was right, I read the first 60% of this in one sitting, which isn't usual for me.

I really like making ikebana, and I definitely believe in the power of flowers. Not exactly the same way that it's portrayed in this book, but it was a fun, interesting take on 'flower magic', as they called it. This is the type of contemporary I like: when there's a big plot, a smaller plot which is usually romance, and a heavy dose of the main character growing from their experiences. This book pretty much followed that, and I really liked it. My favorite thing about this was the relationship between CJ and her family, especially concerning things that happened in her past (which I was not expecting a book like this to take on, but it was really well done).

The ending was a bit bittersweet. I liked that it wasn't completely polished and everything tied up neatly, but at the same time, it left me wanting more.
