“Write this down: Cara Romero is still here, entera.”
I love book about older woman and this book did a great job. Meanwhile, being old isn’t the focus of this book. It’s about family and immigration and abuse and many other themes.
The book documents Cara Romero’s 12 sessions while participating in the Senior Workforce Program in US. She’s a Dominican who has made a life for herself in the New York after escaping an abusive husband and an unsupportive mother.
The narration was everything Cara said during her sessions. So everything was in her voice, her description and her view. Cara is a funny woman, a woman who gives and gives, a woman who takes care of people around her, a woman who chooses herself, a woman who doesn’t give up easily. But she’s also a woman with flaws and aren’t we all?
She believes in zodiac signs too!
I really recommend this book.
