Bunker Dogs by Gage Greenwood

5.0

"Your brain is a computer. Mine is a virus."

"Then it spoke. It fucking spoke. It said the words she'd heard so many times. A mantra in her head. Are you ready?"

This book stars Cassie, who's life is about to go to hell when bombs start exploding in the distance, planes closley fly overhead, and many alerts are going off on her cell. The boy she is baby sitting, James, thankfully tells her that his parents have a hidden bunker in the yard. Once they get into the bunker, after avoiding being in the cross hairs of a shoot out, they find out they are not alone. SomeTHING is living down there, and it is hungry for blood.

The author created a claustrophobic nightmare that keeps getting more and more chaotic as Cassie has to try to protect James and herself from a monster. I do believe that this masterpiece is my favorite read of the year so far!! After seeing this book cover everywhere on the Facebook group, Books of Horror, I had to read this. To be honest, from the name/cover alone, since I hadn't read what the book was about, I didn't know if it was a book for me. However, I am so glad I gave it a chance. The writing alone is absolutely beautiful. I did not expect to read a book about blood thirsty monsters and have so many different emotions and a few tears. The characters all have very complex personalities and experiences that make them who they are. The back stories alone make the story so entertaining. Bunker Dogs is a brilliant story, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read an amazing book. Give it a shot, and I don't think you will be disappointed
