The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

What. The. F***. What did I just read?? The absence of context through the story made the dark end evident, but I still wasn't ready for it! That was horrific!!

I haven't done any research to see if Jackson spelled out any specific meaning behind it, but I like it better that way.

To me, this was a story of how we hold on to tradition with white knuckles even if the meaning and purpose are so far gone and twisted, simply because we are convinced it's the way it "ought to be" even if we are hurting or killing eachother. That's what should haunt us.
