Imbalance
by M. Sinclair, R.L. Caulder
Imbalance is the second book in R.L.Caulder's and M. Sinclair's Monarchs of Hell series. Things pick up where book one left off. The ruling monarchs and all in attendance have found themselves attacked by two the ruling houses who were never meant to hold power in the first place. Ama and her men are in danger, and the chance at escape is extremely low with the wards in place. Help comes in an unexpected form, but at what cost? While they are able to escape, the truth remains, they will be hunted down and they are going to need some serious help if they are going to survive.
Imbalance in comparison to book one isn't as good in my opinion, but it does have some good elements to it. This book is a page-turner as I'm eager to find out what happens next with these characters. There are going to be some additions to Ama's harem so prepare yourself. I like this new city that they are taken to by another hybrid. I love that there is this interesting twist that no one in this world knew about because of how terribly hybrids were treated over the years. The twists are definitely interesting as you don't really know where things are about to go.
There is quite of drama in this book. I enjoy drama, but quite a bit of this comes off as more teenage hormones than anything else. They just barely escaped with their lives and Ama and the guys are too busy lusting over each other. I can understand a bit of this, but it seems to be the focus instead of more concern for their loved ones who were left behind. Yes, a couple of them are concerned, but the rest...not so much. Sorry not sorry, but the guys need to all get a grip. I can understand the jealousy angle of all. The fated mates is new and none of them saw it coming, so they need an adjustment period. What I don't like is them trying to find an excuse to take each other out under the guise of "doing it for Ama." They just need to say, "I'm doing it for me, so that there is one less to compete with." Ama already has six mates and now two more are getting added, but it seems that none of the original group (including Ama) are that bright. All are royalty. So that should be a big hint for them when the new guy shows up mysteriously. So, for them to be that dense to not put two and two together sooner...disappointing and shows that they aren't using the head that truly counts.
I'm hoping that things get straightened out with the characters, because this book series started out so good, and this book gets a bit mired down. The guys need to grow up. Period. I'm hoping that the storyline will go full steam ahead into the promising drama of reclaiming what is rightfully theirs as the heirs. I'm rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.
